Seeing with sightless eyes

Jenny is a pretty young girl, the daughter of the serial killer's landlady. She is well aware of her mother's courting of Incanto, ostensibly as a means of having her poetry read by someone in the publishing industry - Incanto is a "translator of Italian literature", but what else could he be with a name like Virgil Incanto?
It's a very clever name. Vergil was the poet who wrote the Roman epic, the "Aeneid". It was a deliberate policy of Rome to appropriate Greek culture as a means of giving their own a sense of gravitas. They took the Greek pantheon of gods and simply renamed then, so Zeus became Jupiter, Poseidon became Neptune, etc. But Rome had no epic, so Vergil 'translated' Homer, taking the 'Iliad' and 'Odyssey' as models, he had Aeneas, a survivor of the Trojan War, depicted by Homer in the 'Iliad', go on to be the founder of Rome, or, at least, the ancestor of the founder of Rome.
So, when Dante comes to write the Christian version of the myth, who better as a guide through the underworld than Vergil, a writer of Italian poetry, but a 'translator' of Greek myths?
The m0vie blog would have us take the killer's surname as a pun, as Dante wrote his epic 'in cantos' and, well, yeah, okay.
Incanto is an Italian word that means 'allurement, enchantment, glamour'. In other words, the character is named for what he does, for does he not enchant his victims? Does he not try very hard to make these women feel, who see themselves as  less than desirable, glamorous - a word that, etymologically, means a spell, a fiction, a delusion?
Though we have, with Incanto, an Italian text, we should be reading the Greek meaning.
Oedipus was the only person wise enough to answer the riddle of the Sphinx. His tragedy was that he couldn't 'see' his own misfortune. The seer is Tiresias, a blind man. Like Tiresias, Jenny can 'see' what others are unable to. Because she is blind, she isn't fooled by Incanto's charms - another meaning of his name.
It is an oft used trope in movies and TV that the blind have heightened senses as compensation. The science seems to support Daredevil's abilities. "The brain adapts to the loss by giving itself a makeover." (cf. Scientific American) Jenny demonstrates these abilities and an almost superhuman bravery when she encounters Incanto, who has the girl's murdered mother lying on the floor behind him.
The m0vie blog dismisses Jenny as a plot tool and makes much of the internet as the defining factor in his eventual capture. But it is Jenny who calls the police to report the murder of her own mother. Because it deals with such huge concepts, it is easy to miss the human at the heart of the X Files. Imagine being in Jenny's place. Imagine the courage it takes to know that your mother has been murdered, that you are in the room with her dead body, and yet are able to keep it together long enough to pose no threat to the killer, so that you are able to escape his clutches in order to report the crime.
Unlike her mother, who literally walks into her killer's clutches, Jenny, because she has had to learn to deal with a world not designed to deal with her, is able to rise above the expected response of a child trying to deal with horror and act as the witness who finally puts an end to Incanto's long history of death.
